New Software

CaptureOne have just released verison 4 of their RAW processing software called Capture One 4 (formerly CaptureOne LE) which has some fantastic features. Whilst it is very, very, heavy on RAM usage and it lacks in certain area like Meta Data editing, the image editing features are cool. The highlights and shadow sliders are particularly good, as are the presets for exposure and levels. This is a handy little package for RAW image alteration/manipulation, and well worth checking out. Hot new link

That fantastically creative export from Waterford - Grainne - just showed me the Channel 4 site Picture This. If you want to get into photography, and would like some help/critique on your photos and your techniques, this is a great place to start.
Check out some of Grainne's work at www.grainnequinlan.com.
As 2008 kicked off, one of the promises I made to myself was to gift myself some photoplay time, to make sure I leave space for the fun stuff - the taking of the photos that I just love to take. So last week I headed to a spot that I've been promising myself to shoot for ages but never got to it (its the 'putting it on the long finger' gene, my cousin tells me!). Over 24hours I traveled to this spot twice to get the picture I had dreamed of many times, and here it is...
.... who says dreams don't come true...

New Year, New Ideas, New Goals, New Dreams

Welcome to my new blog.  As the New Year kicks off we're full of new and exciting ideas and dreams for the months that lie ahead. This is one of mine.
The inspiration behind this blog is quite simply a person - Chase Jarvis - to be exact. Chase leads the industry with his 'black box' approach to his work, that is to say 'lets show them how we do it'. This is something I support whole heartily. My plan is to go one step further and to share the 'why'. For me the 'why' we do something is THE most important aspect of living and working. If we get the 'why' right the how will take care of itself!
So come on in, look around and ask as many questions as you like.
